What to Do When Your Phone Gets Water Damaged
Water damage is a phone emergency. The actions you take in the first few minutes can determine whether your phone survives. Here's your step-by-step guide from the repair experts at Lakemba Mobile King.
Step 1: Remove From Water Immediately
Get your phone out of the water as fast as possible. Every second of submersion increases the risk of permanent damage.
Step 2: Turn It OFF
Do NOT try to check if it works. Turn the phone off immediately. Water + electricity = short circuits = permanent damage to internal components.
Step 3: Remove Case, SIM Card, and SD Card
Remove everything you can. This helps water drain and prevents damage to removable components.
Step 4: Gently Pat Dry
Use a soft cloth to gently dry the exterior. Shake out any water from ports gently.
What NOT to Do (Common Mistakes)
- ❌ Don't put it in rice – Rice does NOT effectively dry internal components and can leave starch residue
- ❌ Don't use a hair dryer – Heat can damage components and push water deeper inside
- ❌ Don't charge it – Charging a wet phone causes short circuits
- ❌ Don't press buttons – This can push water into the circuits
Step 5: Bring It to Lakemba Mobile King ASAP
Professional repair is the only reliable way to save a water-damaged phone. We use ultrasonic cleaning to properly clean all internal components and remove corrosion-causing minerals.
